People Engagement Programme - Legal

Project X Partners were engaged to design and develop a People Programme to support the growth and development of employees within the global legal function of one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organisations.

Specialist People, Culture and Talent capability and experience were required to support the function in developing and delivering a programme that leveraged cutting-edge People practises to enable the culture shift required to achieve legal’s strategic priorities.

An initial discovery sprint was conducted to explore current employee experience through stakeholder interviews and focus groups with over 80 global colleagues. Quantitative and qualitative people data sources were reviewed and analysed. Supportive solutions and employee engagement strategy were identified and recommended to address the ‘as is’ state.

The Legal People Programme structure and team were set up using Agile principles of collective intelligence, experimentation and collaboration.

The governance model ensured decision-making and ownership of solutions and priorities sat within the working groups consisting of legal executives, managing directors and over 130 employee volunteers from across the function.

Working groups brainstormed initiatives, prioritised areas of focus and created the programme backlog. Initiatives were delivered using a test, learn and experiment approach. Data and feedback were gathered as MVPs were launched and the learning used to continuously improve.

Outcomes

Quick wins were identified and 19 initiatives were delivered during a six-month delivery sprint.

Working groups were united across departments and regions on a common purpose in making the Legal Function ‘A Great Place to Work’. There has been increased employee engagement and collaboration across the function through participation in bi-weekly global working group meetings and sub group initiatives, along with increased transparency and engagement with Legal Strategy and employee roles within that.

Programme ongoing through 2023/ 24.
