Global People Plan - Cyber Security

Design, development and facilitation of the programme and global working groups

Project X Partners supported the cyber security function of one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organisations in designing a multi-year People Plan to drive engagement, energise the workforce, enable new ways of working and build an inclusive culture.

We first undertook a discovery sprint which included a collation and review of all known company-wide People activities impacting the cyber function. People data insights covering engagement survey, skills matrix, org design, employee feedback, hiring volumes and interviews with EXCO functional and regional heads, HR and People champions were undertaken.

From these insights, the leadership team agreed the key global cyber People priorities and solutions were co-created by volunteers from across the global workforce delivered through work streams with sponsorship of executive leaders.

Communities were established to drive change by targeting a few actions at a time, delivering in sprints, and reviewing progress with a simple, light touch governance to enable agility and limit decision-making delays. Using team charters, prioritisation techniques and agile methodologies, the People Plan was co-created which drove ownership and engagement in supporting the 1,200 employees.

Outcomes

Overall, the function realised year-on-year increases in engagement scores, with advocacy scores leading the bank. A robust pipeline of cyber security junior talent was secured through the creation of a cyber digital brochure to attract candidates and through a strategic Cyber First Partnership (National Cyber Security Centre).

Recognition increased across the function through the introduction of annual ‘Cyber People Awards’ and a Global Kudos board.

To support career development and progression, over 1,000 data sets and existing cyber roles were mapped to 33 activity areas of the NICE/ NIST capability framework to enable degreed learning pathways to be built.

Multiple leader-led engagement events to build and create an inclusive culture were hosted, which were attended by over 1,000 colleagues in a 12-month period.
